Semester Hours Required for Degree: 60
The Master of Social Work Program (MSW) in the Division of Social Work, College of Professional Studies, is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The program consists of 60-credit hours of course work and field practice (internship). The MSW program curriculum, in accord with the values and ethics of the social work profession, seeks to prepare graduate students with a solid generalist foundation to become ethical and autonomous professional social workers prepared for advanced clinical community social work practice (CCP), and who are competent to provide and evaluate services to clients with the highest level of professional integrity.
The focus of the MSW curriculum is the development of a firm underpinning in individual/community dynamics and intervention. This dual focus serves as the cornerstone for obtaining expertise in the use of clinical intervention skills and community activist skills simultaneously. This is a clinical program that emphasizes group work, community organizing and political activity as part of the social work clinicians’ role. The curriculum is in accord with the Florida state licensure requirements for clinical social workers.
The curriculum of the MSW Program is delivered through the Full-Time Program, Advanced Standing Program, and Part-Time Program.
