Chullpas of Sillustani
(Funerary Towers) - Standing on a small hilltop in the
Lake Umayo peninsula, these towers look very impressive
against the bleak landscape. They contain the remains of the
Colla (tribe of Inca) nobility, who were buried in family
groups, complete with food and belongings for their journey
into the next world. The tallest of these towers, pictured
here, reaches a height of about 12 meters.
