Peru – Andean
Adventure 2004
The College of Professional Studies and the College of Education are
jointly sponsoring a ten-day adventure to Peru. This study tour will
highlight two unique areas of the Andean Highlands: Machu Picchu and
Lake Titicaca. This trip will allow participants the opportunity to
interact
with the Peruvian people in a cultural exchange that will enhance
knowledge of the ecology and anthropology of the regions we visit. This
trip is ideal for photographers, botanical/wildlife enthusiasts,
environmentalists, historians, teachers and students from all programs.
Almost any discipline can be enhanced through independent studies and
University credit is being offered for the IDS 3920 – Colloquium (a
required University course). In addition some service learning
opportunities will be available.
The tour will consist of 4 days in the Cuzco Area, exploring the
ancient city of Cuzco, traveling through the sacred valley, a cultural
project at Casa de Milagros (children’s home), and taking in the
vistas at Machu Picchu. Another 4 days will include exploring the area
around Lake Titicaca. This unusual water feature, located in the central
Andes, is the world’s highest navigable lake. The luminescent quality
of the sunlight and the unique use of the local Totora Reeds for
building material, make this adventure unlike any other in the world.
Be sure to access the link of pictures
for these two regions to enjoy the sites of things to see and do. An
additional side tour to the Amazon Rain Forest is available upon
request.
Our tour host is Mr. Jim Cronk, of Eco-Image Travel, LLC, who has
over ten years of experience taking groups of students to Peru. He is
also a professional photographer and former science teacher who is
willing to share his expertise with the group.
